Àtico Restaurant

Àtico is a fusion restaurant in the area of N. Psychiko. The main concept idea was to manage the space as an extension of the existing building.

Therefore, the design process was not concerned with “aesthetic correctness” due to the fact that this space should be fully harmonized and give a “boost” to the overall image of the building.

Forms, materials, and light have been integrated into the design as factors of the experiential condition in a sensual way, they tried to give the poetic dimension they emit. Curves and free lines depict the points of movement and stops in space. The geometry of the floor carvings is followed by alternations of the square grid of the ceilings. The dense grid of the roof defines the movement at floor level and at the entry points. The flooring is made with pressed cement mortar in a neutral grey and dark terracotta shade. An interesting point is the roof where half of it is a continuation of the shelves of the bar and is coated with walnut while the other half is left unfinished and unpainted as a continuation of the entire construction of the building which is made of reinforced concrete. Indoor floors are chipped siding rock plates.

At the same time, the main bar is a point of interest due to its custom-made construction of stainless steel material which can connect the solid wooden shelves of the bar and the roof with the unfinished and unpainted reinforced concrete. Finally, all the glass curtains with the gabled facade should be open, in order to achieve a smooth connection of the interior with the exterior, during the summer period, in order to achieve the maximum natural lighting and ventilation of the interior. The central axis of the design was the naturalness of the materials (metal, wood, natural mortars) in earth tones, combined with monolithic volumes and simple, clean lines. Minimalism, the soul of elegance, beats loudly in every square.
